The Difference Between PFMEA and DFMEA

PFMEA stands for Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, while DFMEA stands for Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis. They’re essentially two different ways to apply FMEA, with each of them being useful at different stages in an automotive organization’s overall workflow.

PFMEA is a means of applying FMEA to processes at the design and management level of a process and is a great way to learn more about the effectiveness of your organization’s processes from the top down. DFMEA is a use of FMEA for product design purposes.
