FMEA Training

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is the industry standard way to ensure that risk and waste of resources (such as labour and time) are kept to an absolute minimum in any given organization’s product development activities or manufacturing workflow. This helps with the end product itself and the process which works towards creating the end product.

Waste can occur at any point throughout a given automotive industry’s procedural pipeline, and any place it does occur is going to create a problem that could be avoided by practicing FMEA techniques. FMEA training instructs your organization’s leadership as to how to go about applying these techniques, so that waste and risk in your company is kept to an absolute minimum. This training is also important for employees who have an influential effect on the product’s design or the design of any manufacturing process your organization employs in its day-to-day operations.

The Difference Between PFMEA and DFMEA

PFMEA stands for Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, while DFMEA stands for Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis. They’re essentially two different ways to apply FMEA, with each of them being useful at different stages in an automotive organization’s overall workflow.

PFMEA is a means of applying FMEA to processes at the design and management level of a process and is a great way to learn more about the effectiveness of your organization’s processes from the top down. DFMEA is a use of FMEA for product design purposes. While they both draw on the same core base of knowledge, each is different enough from the other that they merit a separate module in our training scheme.

As part of either FMEA course, we’ll also teach a module called Translating Customer’s Requirements, suitable for managers and engineers alike. The goal of this course is to learn how to better integrate customer-specific requirements into your organization by effectively ‘translating’ those requirements into real, tangible characteristics. This is useful both for product launches and ongoing production activities.

How FMEA Training Works

FMEA training involves instructing the company’s employees about how they can apply FMEA strategies and concepts in their everyday business environment. The training fosters a self-sufficient workforce that can continue to innovate and come up with creative solutions to problems that arise, effectively guarding against the unknown by familiarizing the organization with the very latest in risk assessment practices.

Employees who work with us towards earning their FMEA competency will leave the course with a thorough understanding of what FMEA really means, as well as the capacity to apply what they’ve learned in their everyday work. It’s a vital way to increase the productive value of the workforce and is an investment in your staff as much as in the processes the staff members are refining.

How The ISO Edge can help with FMEA Training

Our FMEA training courses are given through an instructor-led educational format, and separately for DFMEA and PFMEA. Each section is designed to start with the basics of the topic, before steadily increasing both a) the amount of material being covered, and b) the demands on the students. By the end, they will be fully qualified, FMEA-ready employees. Reference materials will be provided, and all of the terminology taught to the participants will be industry-specific and up-to-date with the latest developments in the field of FMEA application.

Simulating Failures and Weaknesses

Importantly in the two FMEA applications, DFMEA focuses on simulating product failures and PFMEA simulates weaknesses in processes. Participants will learn how to create more effective and instructive failure simulations, which in turn will help your organization to become more robust.

Skill Improvement

Employees are trained to the very latest level of proficiency in IATF 16949. Both DFMEA and PFMEA course participants will also be trained to meet the competency requirements they need to carry out Supplier Quality Audits.

How To Use Robustness Tools

A process that isn’t robust is going to run into a problem, sooner or later. The nature of these problems is that they typically can’t be thought up during the pre-emptive problem identification stage, which is why the process must be individually robust enough to withstand the added pressure at some future point. If a problem of this description arises, your company is going to have to pay for it whether with time, capital, or increased demands on your workforce. Training participants will be taught cutting-edge robustness tools that are at the forefront of the automotive industry’s best practice guidelines. This enables them to safeguard against issues that are impossible to foresee.

Reduced Test Failures

Only after a thorough analysis of the processes that go into creating your products and services can we understand how best to help you keep failures to a minimum. These failures can occur pre-release (we call these ‘test failures’) and post-release (think of patches, updates, and re-releases). While both types of failures can affect your organization in different ways, our FMEA training services will help you streamline your organization in as many areas as possible, contributing to an overall leaner business without standard sub-par quality control and consistency issues.

Choose The ISO Edge for FMEA Training

With The ISO Edge as your FMEA training firm, you’ll give your organization the best shot at transitioning towards a more streamlined model of operation. You can rest assured that your investment in our services will be returned with dividends over time, often as soon as within the first few weeks of implementation.

While becoming an organization with as little excess fat as possible (running a ‘lean’ company) is hardly a ground-breaking development in the automotive industry, most processes in place in today’s organizations simply aren’t designed for that kind of radical shift.

The lack of preparation results in an endemic lack of attention to detail and quality control, wreaking havoc on a well-meaning business’s chance of achieving its goals. Reliability and quality are the two most important concepts to keep in mind when considering FMEA—these are the two areas that tend to suffer the most following the implementation of a lean operational model.

One of Canada’s Leading FMEA Training Courses

Participants who come through our doors leave with a thorough understanding of what it means to use FMEA techniques in order to refine processes and minimize the probability of potential product or process failures in the future.

FMEA qualification can be a time-consuming process, but that’s the only resource it’ll take up. In terms of the investment to build an FMEA-capable workforce, the training pays for itself, and measurable, tangible results can be expected soon after the conclusion of the program.
